To find the Kraken or Leviathan, you need to explore the ocean more but beware though, as Sea Serpents may see you and attack. There is no specific chitin location except for leviathans and to find them, you will need to travel the oceans in search of them. The Abyssal Barnacles on the back of the Leviathan can be mined with a pickaxe but other resources on its back will be invulnerable such as rocks and trees. There is no need to worry if the Leviathan does not make a sound but once it does, you have up to about 20 seconds to finish farming and get back to your ship.Įven if the Leviathan submerges, it will not attack you and it will simply just go away until it reappears again. Mining the Abyssal Barnacles will cause them to drop Chitin which you collect and you should do this fast. If you are on the Leviathan’s back, it won’t do anything but once you start harvesting the Abyssal Barnacles, each one you mine has a chance to cause it to react.

This resource is required to craft the Abyssal Knife weapon and the Abyssal Harpoon utility tool which comes in handy later on.
Using chitin you can craft the Abyssal weapons at any level 2 Workbench.Among most of the rarest resources out there, you may find that there is one called Chitin or as players labeled it, Abyssal chitin. Leviathans are giant sea turtles that will start to sink underwater once you start mining them, so it can be rather difficult to collect enough chitin to craft these weapons. The harpoon is a unique weapon that tethers you to other enemies or players after you throw it at them, so it can be used for relocating creatures such as a boar into a pen or even for dragging Sea Serpents to land to strand them and make their Serpent scales recoverable (since they normally sink in deep water). To maximize your gains, try to start mining at the same time. Also, it’s best to mine the turtles with a group of people, as you can get more chitin quickly. If/when the giant tortoise goes under, head back to your boat before it’s too late. You should know that every time you mine some chitin, there is a 25% chance that the turtle will sink. Take your boat up to it, but leave the ladder facing the turtle because you want to be able to easily access your boat, especially if the turtle decides to go for refreshing dive.
You can find them floating about in the vast ocean, and once you find one, you should make a note on your map so you can easily return to it in the future. That means the next step is to find one of the giant sea turtles. Sounds easy, but there’s a catch: to get the chitin, you’ll need to harvest it from the back of an ancient sea turtle. You’ll also need fine wood and leather scraps aside from the chitin. To craft Abyssal weapons, you are going to need chitin…a lot of chitin.
